MARKETING and advertising a remodeling - construction type biz?

hey everyone a friends dad asked me to help him market his remodeling biz, im kinda lost on the subject, really just doing it for free to help him out, so far ive come up with wrapping his van w his website cuz its plain white right now, and yardsigns to put while working at some location, i just made a bunch of business cards id like to give to places like hi end lighting shops, and id really like to be able to target my audience a little better, thing is i dont really know a whole lot about this, does anyone have any ideas to how to target folks a little better or ideas on advertising a business like this? remember flyers are out of the question and i doubt lowes would let him (its like the only place to target ppl remodeling their homes that i know) thanks for helping out!
