They are many ways to drive traffic to your website, you will need the traffic to accomplish your goal online of being profitable. I am assuming it’s your primary purpose of having an online presence.
The top ways to drive traffic to your online presence include Pay Per Click marketing, Search engine optimization, forum marketing and article marketing. Keep in mind its going to cost you time or money to drive traffic online. Sometimes both, depending on how you have your traffic strategy get up.
For this reason you, you want to initially focus on methods of driving traffic that get the best bang for your buck. I can say that Pay Per Click and Article Marketing have worked for me, but I would recommend that you do your own test to see what works for you and to find out your personal preference.
As per my knowledge 5 Steps to drive traffic:
For drive traffic use below process:
1. Submit in directories
2. Submit Articles
3. Blog Discussion
4. Forum Postings
5. Link exchanges

It’s not too difficult but beware of black-hat SEO.
Have a look at what I’ve just discovered about several leading web design / seo firms - using black-hat to push their search rankings. All are Top 10 already!

Hi, good question…
Like some of the posters mentioned, there are quite a few ways to get traffic (visitors) to your website. I’ll just tell you about three of the ways I use to do this. They first two work particularly well for me (page ones in Google and Yahoo regularly), and the third I’m still learning about, but I’ve had good results so far.
One way is by writing articles. This works exceptionally well. The articles can get you some great ‘in pointing’ links, and bring on-going traffic to your site. However, you do have to spend the time writing the articles, and articles also tend to take a while to show results. They’re slow burners, but they burn for a long time.
You’re welcome to download a great free guide about how you can use article marketing to bring traffic to your site here:

Here’s an example of the type of articles I write and submit:
http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Martin_Hurley
Often my articles are only about 400-500 words so it’s not as difficult as it might look at first.
The other thing I use is http://hurleypix.com/3wl This will cost you a monthly fee - but it works very effectively at giving my websites and blogs very nice page one rankings on Google. On the odd occasion I get a page two too.
I won’t get into depth about this one here but look over the site if you want to learn more. It’s powerful stuff.
Another option is by using web 2.0 sites such as Digg, Twitter, FaceBook, Craigs List, Stumbleupon, etc. You have to get ‘in there’ and communicate and learn about these sites, build your profile up, etc, but they are pretty good too at motivating people to come look at your website.
There’s other ways as well including press releases and contributing in forums often. But I hope you can get something good from the above.
Thanks

Here are five ways you can get traffic and have an greater online presence.
1. Use article marketing to get the word out about your site. It is free at ezinearticles.com and this method alone can generate over 1,000 article views per week. Ezinearticles.com also has a high PR rank so you will get listed in search engines quickly with quality articles.
2. Use myspace or other web 2.0 platforms to advertise your site. You can add unlimited friends on myspace and then send out bulletins or personal messages advertising your website. This allows you to build a relationship with your website visitors in addition to receiving more traffic.
3. Advertise via classified ad sites such as craigslist.com and usfreeads.com. These can also get listed in search engines because many people will view your ads building your website traffic.
4. Forum marketing. Find a forum by doing a google search that is relevant to your website. Then post quality content in the forums. This will get your site viewed many times each day and will boost your search engine rankings.
5. Use Search Engine Optimization (SEO). This is the best way to get your site listed in the search engines for free. SEO is unlike any other marketing tool because your site is listed directly in search engines for free!
