Search engine problems - What would this action do?

My two main search engines are not working correctly, sending me to wrong websites. I have diligently scanned for virus's and spyware and nothing has been found. I would like to to into Tools, Internet Options, Programs and then hit RESET WEBSITE SETTINGS. What I want to know is what will that all do and can it hurt anything. I'm hoping that will get my search engines back to normal.
Note: If I type in www. before the word I'm searching, it's okay but if I do not use the www. before the word, I get incorrect website urls. Thanks much.
I probably worded it wrong. When I type in the word I want searched, several links come up. If I click on the link, it sends me to a totally unrelated website and one even tried to start a anti-virus scan.
I type in www. with the main word even if I don't know the url address so that I can at least get correct links.

I am looking to advertise a business that I am going to be starting from my home till i can save enough money for an office space, currently i have about 1/100th of what i need to have to go full scale, so saving money is a must for me. Since i am starting the business in my house (which is in a nice neighborhood) i need ways of advertising cheaply and i need to know ways i can get the computers without having everyone come to my house (something i would like to av void)

any suggestions?

Like when I ask question about certain stuff it almost seems like I am getting a pre-written response and it says to go to their website, which I never do.

Makes me wonder if they go to everyone with an open question and justs pastes their answer.
