Are there any software vendors, excluding the well known giants, wanting to advertise?

Whether targeting well-known or lesser-known software vendors to advertise in your software-based community, those firms will want to see factual numbers showing lots of followers within the community, and by lots I mean a minimum of tens of thousands on a daily basis.
It won’t be good enough to say you have a big community. They will want access to your statistics, and they will also gauge the numbers according to the community’s visual activity (questions, comments, responses, etc.).
If you don’t yet have all of that in place, no vendor will consider advertising, but if you do, move forward to craft a compelling Email or letter to the director of sales and marketing for each software firm you target.
From there, you’ll have lots of follow-up and negotiations before vendors say "yes."
You might also consider placing affiliate ads from software vendors in the community space available through Commission Junction and similar business models.
Good luck to you.
