How do conservative Republicans reconcile free market philosophy with harsh immigration standards?

October 30, 2009 on 8:01 am | By advertising | In marketing |

Basically there is no legal way that a standard Latino laborer could immigrate to the US without a sponsor. They would have better luck being struck by lighting and winning la loteria on the same day.
If the GOP is so bullish on the powers of the free market, why not relax the immigration standards instead of attempting to artificially inflate the price of manual labor?

  3. What is it about breaking the law that you don’t get?

Are you actually telling me that you want the southern flood gates thrown wide open for anyone who wants to come in?

Last time we did that, didn’t we get about a dozen terror cells in our country?

  4. They believe that money, business, has all the rights, free to travel across borders without restraint or regulation. Money is God. While humans must be controlled and restricted, humans are beneath money. That’s how they reconcile it.

  5. There are latinos that immigrate the old fashion legal way, that do it without a sponsor. How do you reconcile the fact that illegals cost us money by using our hospitals and social services? The standards not only should be maintained, we should be able to close our borders to illegals crossing.

  6. If you are related to President Obama, there are separate rules for immigration. I would work that angle. Besides, based on his family, virtually anyone could claim a blood relationship.

  9. I challenge you to go find a Country more lose on there Immigration laws!!!!!You can become a citizen of the United States irregardless of your current economic status..Try that some where else…If a Cuban gets on dry land he is an auto stay here…..
You know you seem to love to bash this Country and our laws so much…If it is so bad why do you think they are trying to come here..
Maybe instead of b*tching all the time about it here stop to realize that even a person making minimum wage or as you call it artificially inflation is one of the richest people in the World….!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am well traveled. My Aunt is a Nun and worked in Reo for years…we have it so good here..but even Countries like that require a heck of lot more to become Citizens than we do..Heck you would be hard pressed to retire there…and get caught illegally living in Mexico. And even if Mexico lets you in 99 years later that property you bought goes back to Mexico. You could end up in jail for years before they bring you home…

  11. Not clear why you think these things are in conflict; there is nothing in the concept of "free markets" that forces one to forego sovereignty or rule of law. In fact, one can argue that both are necessary for the free market to function.

  12. That is total bull. Illegals can walk into any county courthouse in my state and get welfare…today. They get new clothes, a place to live and food stamps. I know this from having worked with the social services. The social workers are not even ALLOWED to ask them if they are in the country legally.

I have no objection to people wanting to come to the U.S. to work…but we do have legal means to do that. Right now, we have more than 15 million illegals currently drawing welfare or working a job that an American citizen could use to feed his family. Laws are made for a reason. If they can not respect our immigration laws, how can we believe that they will respect our other laws?

Hey know what Mr. know it all —-it has become all to apparent "free" market means different things to different people. Especially the free part!!!

  14. Many Republicans are liberal in economic system, but conservative in social issues. Immigration is perceived as a social issue, not a economic issue. Besides, there is a big difference between legal and illegal immigration.

A laborer, Latino or non-Latino, could not enter and stay in the US without a employer who is willing to hire him and sponsor his visa. This is to ensure that this foreigner could make a living in this country so that his would not become a burden to our society. I don’t see any wrong with that. Please keep in mind, many Asian Indian high tech workers who have advanced degrees in math, engineering, and science still need to have employer’s sponsorship in order to work in this country.

Compared to the other countries, even Mexico, U.S. actually has a relatively generous immigration policy.
Also, this is not GOP vs. Dem, it is a matter of law and order.
