Does Search Engine Optimization (SEO) really work?

Hey, I’m Berry,
I’m working for a sales company and I sell websites with the option to Optimize.
I’m doing great as a salesman, and I love it. My problem is that I have a very strong conscience, and I need to know that this really works… Please let me know, if you really know about this stuff, if SEO is a proven method to improve business.

SEO help - confused with ONE WAY links?

I have a new e-commerce website with a blog. I fill out forms, comment on other blogs or forums, register to high traffic websites and keep linking.
I heard from my website company that if I write a blog I need to create links on my blog too. Lets say if I write about some fashion magazine and create link to www.vogue.com - why would one-way link be good for my site? Some people also say "Make people want to link to you". I see people leave comments on my blog and leave their links but once again what’s the point of having one-way links on my site? Please, advice I am getting confused

I finally made my program and finally made my website. I did everything that I needed to do. Now all I need is search engine visibility. According to some internet articles, I can make lots of sites link back to my site. But that requires signing up and that takes forever to do. So I’m looking for a way to make my site visible in a short amount of time. Any way that I can do that? Thanks in advance.

Search engines are not working!?

My internet access is fine but ever since yesterday I have noticed my search engines are not working. I search under google and I get know responses, then I try under Yahoo search engine and no response. I don’t know why this is happening but I really need my search engine up and working. If this helps my operating system is windows xp. Please tell me what I can do to fix it.
