There are different ways to promote your book. Whether you opt for a cost-efficient or high end ways to market your book, a marketing plan is a must. Marketing is perhaps the toughest part of publishing a book and not having the right marketing plan is just as good as not having published at all. By setting achievable goals, you can be able to do what works best for your book.

Assuming you used an actual publisher and not a vanity publisher (or self-published - not the same thing as vanity publishing), the publisher will have some ideas of how the book should be promoted. If they are into the health field, they will have contacts with places that would like to have your book.
However, publishers are often not up on the best markets for a particular book, and you may need to do your own promotions. Look at WHO would likely buy your book. WHERE are you likely to reach them? WHAT do they do to keep up-to-date? WHY would your book matter to them? WHEN would they be most interested in the content? HOW can they make use of the book?
Once you have the answers to these questions, you can promote anywhere - the Web, locally, in newspapers, find places to give talks on the subject and so on.

A lot depends on whether you paid for publication or the publisher paid you.
If you paid, most bookstores won’t host signings or readings, places like OBs’ and pediatricians’ offices won’t allow flyers posted, the media will discard press releases, and it’s an uphill battle.
However, because it’s non-fiction, you may have some means not available to the people who do fiction, assuming you have professional credentials which tie in to the book’s subject.
Most cities and towns have a free or reduce-price clinics, parenting classes, prenatal workshops, preschool programs, and other places where you might be a welcome guest speaker discussing a particular aspect of your expertise which just happens to be in your book. Become a regular–maybe every other month–and in time, people will ask if this stuff is all written down somewhere, and you get to say, "Why yes, in my book."
You can also find websites with forums or chats where moms visit. Become a regular who’s never confrontational and always professional. Follow their rules about self-promotion and links to a point of sale, and you may find yourself selling copies there, too.

Ask about putting flyers up in your local university bookstore and in the university’s pre-med and medical training departments.
Call local clinics and hospitals and ask if you can meet with someone about discussing your book and putting up flyers.
Contact an organization based on maternal and child health nursing, like pediatrics associations and ob/gyn organizations, about doing a review of your book and/or displaying on their websites, newsletters, or magazines.
Try to set up a lecture at local universities based on your book by going through the medical and pre-med departments.
I don’t know if this is your book, but you could try searching for http://search.barnesandnoble.com/Maternal-and-Child-Health-Nursing/Adele-Pillitteri/e/9781582559995 and see what kinds of promotions it does for itself.
