What is the housing market like in Area 51, Nevada? I am thinking of moving there this summer.?

Is there any way to invest in the stock market while guaranteeing profit?

I’ve been thinking that since i’m a bit low on cash, i might as well try the stock market. I just don’t want to lose all my money. So i was just looking for a trick or something that could guarantee a bit of cash in a short amount of time. Any other advice regarding the market is also welcome.

Atheists & Believers: can "free market" capitalism be just, stable, & ecologically sane, given human nature?

As an agnostic and a democratic socialist, I don’t believe it can be.

I think that most of what Americans think of as "free market" capitalism is based on an ancient Christian heresy — the heresy of antinomianism. This is the belief that — as St. Paul once put it, in criticizing this heresy — it is good for individuals to sin, "that grace may abound."

In economic terms, as articulated by Adam Smith, the antinomian heresy takes the form of thinking that if everyone acts from purely selfishness, the social results of that selfishness — one of the worst of all sins, in Christian terms — will be good for all.

It seems obvious to me that 250 years of acting on that idea has produced an economic system in the USA especially that in some ways is brilliant, productive, and amazingly creative — but also a bit demonic in its effects.

This economic system based on selfishness has clearly produced wondrous technology for everyone & very high living standards for some — but at the cost of chronic injustice, repeated economic depressions, repeated surges in unemployment, seemingly endless wars, and the ongoing destruction of the environment.

From my agnostic perspective, that’s exactly what we should expect from a system that’s ultimately based on individual selfishness & conflict, which the economists bless as "free market competition."

But that’s what I think.

If the entire world is going to end soon, isn’t it crucially important for the rich to sell off their stocks and start helping the poor — partly for moral reasons, partly to obey Jesus, and partly to avoid the Tribulations to come?
