SEO newby question! I am adding backlinks (10 per day, 7 sites) & wondered how to know if they were working?

I am a small business owner, and had some web sites that I have owned that were not getting much traffic. I read backlinks were a good cheap way to increase traffic, so I had been adding backlinks to my sites to increase their traffic. Every site I found in my industry with a PR 3 or higher, I was submitting a 1 way link to all 7 of my web sites. I have been doing this for about a week, but I would like to know how to track my efforts better. Any suggestions for a SEO newby do-it-yourselfer?

Search engine Redirecting?

I’m not really sure if i have a virus, or if it’s just some redirect malware. I cannot for the life of me, get rid of it however.

Whenever i use a search engine such as google or yahoo, any link i click redirects me to some random pages that has nothing to do with what the original link was. I usually get moved to pages such as yellowbook.com, or mfeedsearch, and sometimes even to a malicious website that gets blocked by my AV program.

I am also unable to boot into any of the safe modes. Whenever I try, my computer just randomly restarts,

I have tried AVG, Spybot, and Malware-bytes. None of which fixed the problem.

Anyone know how to fix this?

How do I do that? Not just what i search for in search engines, but also when you, for example, sign into facebook, it will save all of the account emails, so if u double click in the username section to sign in, all of the emails will show up in a drop down list. this is what im talking about. does anyone know how to delete all of the things that are saved? and if u don’t know how to delete it, do u at least know what it’s called so that I can try to find it on my computer? thank you so much!
